Quality Standards and Certifications

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service

is the sole national accreditation body recognized by government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organizations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators. UKAS is a non-profit-distributing private company, limited by guarantee. UKAS is independent of Government but is appointed as the national accreditation body by Accreditation Regulations 2009 (SI No 3155/2009) and the EU Regulation (EC) 765/2008 and operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government through the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Good Manufacturing Practices

(GMP, also referred to as 'cGMP' or 'current Good Manufacturing Practice') is the aspect of quality assurance that ensures that medicinal products are consistently produced and controlled to the quality standards appropriate to their intended use and as required by the product specification.

GMP defines quality measures for both production and quality control and defines general measures to ensure that processes necessary for production and testing are clearly defined, validated, reviewed, and documented, and that the personnel, premises and materials are suitable for the production of pharmaceuticals and biologicals including vaccines. GMP also has legal components, covering responsibilities for distribution, contract manufacturing and testing, and responses to product defects and complaints. Specific GMP requirements relevant to classes of products such as sterile pharmaceuticals or biological medicinal products are provided in a series of annexes to the general GMP requirements.

The RvA (Dutch Accreditation Council)

has a mission to ensure that interested parties can have justified confidence in all accreditations of conformity assessment provided by and monitored by the RvA. Both at a national and international level, purchasers require guarantees about the quality of goods and services supplied to them, since the variety on offer is very large.  Accordingly, a supplier can have its product or service objectively assessed or tested by a laboratory, certification or inspection body. This can be done throughout any field of work imaginable, including construction, energy, environment, drinking water, health and transport, to name a few.

Value-Added Auditing

is a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. Third party and internal auditors have noticed a new emphasis on analytical auditing that involves process audits, risk and/or control assessments, and other forms of effectiveness assessments.
